Covid-19 Pandemic Update

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Greenstate Credit Union made several updates to how members' health plan benefits work.  We did this to help relieve pressure on the health care system—ensuring emergency rooms, urgent care clinics and other care settings were not overwhelmed during this public health crisis. It’s clear that there is still a high presence of the virus in Iowa, South Dakota and across the United States. Therefore, we will extend most of the coverages an additional 3 months for our members:

  1. In-network, inpatient treatment of COVID-19. The waiver of members’ cost-share (copay, coinsurance and deductible) will continue related to inpatient treatment of COVID-19 with an in-network provider through June 30, 2021.

  2. COVID-19 tests and related services. Members have no cost-share for appropriate testing and related services to diagnose or detect COVID-19. This is required by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and remains in place as long as we are in a public health emergency, as declared by the federal government.

  3. Telehealth Services – telehealth services will continue to be available to GreenState Credit Union members under the health plan, however effective with date of service 1/1/2021 and after these will no longer be covered at 100%, member cost share will apply.

NEW - COVID-19 Vaccines and Vaccine Administration.  The federal government, through Operation Warp Speed, is working to distribute COVID-19 vaccines across the country as soon as they are authorized, starting in early December.  While the federal government intends to pay for the initial vaccination doses for all Americans (and providers cannot bill health plans for such doses), Greenstate Credit Union’s health plans will pay for the administration of the COVID-19 vaccination at no cost-share to our members, consistent with the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.  Once the federal government stops paying for COVID-19 vaccination doses, Greenstate Credit Union health plans will also cover COVID-19 vaccination doses at no member cost-share as an ACA preventative service.
